'At Bradwell Grove'

A pencilled inscription on the album page gives the location.

Bradwell Grove in Oxfordshire was the home of William Hervey, a wealthy merchant who bought the house in 1804. According to a directory of 1853: 'In a deep recess in this district, until recently, was an ancient mansion which had too gloomy an appearance to be pleasing. Mr Hervey pulled it down in 1804 and erected an entire mansion in the Gothic style of architecture'.
