'The Man of the Woods'

'The Man of the Woods'

A pencilled inscription in a period hand on the back of the mount reads simply: 'The Man of the Woods.' It came with another portrait showing the same man standing full-length; he's bare-footed and his clothes look worn and dirty, so the title can probably be taken at face value.

Photographed by Alfred Pettitt of Keswick and Cumberland.
