A carte-de-visite portrait of Henry Philpott (1807-1892), who occupied the see of Worcester from 1860 to 1890.
A distinguished scholar at the University of Cambridge, he graduated as Senior Wrangler in 1829, was elected a Fellow of St Catherine’s College in 1829 and in 1845 became Master of St Catherine’s College, a post he held until 1861. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree by royal letters patent in 1847.
