'Harata or Hariet'

An extensive inked inscription verso in a period hand reads: 'Harata or Hariet the Wahine or Wife of Haimona or Simon who fought in the engagement at Motaa an Island in the Wanganui river when the rebels were coming down on the town to murder the whites.'
