A 'spirit' photograph

A late 19th-century brown toned silver print showing a child with the ‘spirit’ of another young boy, with a puff of ectoplasm-like smoke next to the disembodied head of the ghost. The photographer has created the image using the tried-and-tested collage method.

An inked inscription in French in the lower margin reads; ‘Le neveu Bertrand’ [English: ‘Nephew Bertrand’].

Photographer and location unidentified, but almost certainly French, judging by the context of the album.
