The Sherbrooke family were landowners in Oxton, Nottinghamshire. William Sherbrooke was born at Calverton in Nottinghamshire on 23 October 1844. His parents were Henry Porter Sherbrooke and Louisa Ann Fleming née Fane. The 1851 census shows him living at Southwell Hall in Nottinghamshire. At the time of 1861 census he was a Midshipman serving on the training ship HMS Racoon off the coast of Syria. He appears on the 1881 census, a retired Commander living at Colwick Hall in Nottinghamshire.
On 1 September 1870 he married Margaret McDoanld Graham in Scotland. He died on 13 August 1914, aged 69.
