A carte-de-visite portrait of the Liberal Member of Parliament Col. Hon. Wenman Clarence Walpole Coke (1828-1907).
The Honourable Wenman Clarence Walpole Coke was born on 13 July 1828, the son of Thomas William Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester ('Coke of Norfolk') by his second wife, Lady Anne Amelia, daughter of William Keppel, 4th Earl of Albermarle.
Coke rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Scots Guards and saw action during the Crimean War. In 1858 he was returned to Parliament as one of the two members for Norfolk East, a seat he held until 1865.
Colonel Coke never married. He died on 10 January 1907, aged 78.
