The International Exhibition of 1862

A carte-de-visite showing a view of the nave at the International Exhibition of 1862, which took place in London between 1 May and 1 November 1862.

The exhibition was sponsored by the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Trade, and featured over 28,000 exhibitors from 36 countries, with a wide range of exhibits representing industry, technology, and the arts. Held in South Kensington on a site now occupied by the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum, it attracted about 6.1 million visitors. When it closed, the building was dismantled and the materials were sold for use in the construction of the Alexandra Palace.
