An inscription on the album page identifies these hunting trophies as 'G.F. Mockler's bag, 1897.'
This presumably refers to Gerald Francis Mockler, born at Cheltenham in Gloucestershire on 4 July 1858. His father was Edward Mockler, a surgeon with the 17th Lancers who retired on half-pay in 1861 with the honorary rank of Deputy Inspector General of Hospitals. Gerald, his son, served in the militia rather than in the Army. He began his career as a Sub-Lieutenant in the 2nd (South Devon) Infantry. He was later a Major in the Oxfordshire Light Infantry. He died, aged 77, at Oxford on 8 June 1935 and was buried in the parish of Cowley on 12 June 1935.
