The American sculptor Harriet Hosmer (1830-1908) was resident in Rome from 1853 to 1860. While living there, she became acquainted with Nathaniel Hawthorne, Thackeray, George Eliot and George Sand. She was also a frequent guest of the Brownings at Casa Guidi in Florence.
