A carte-de-visite portrait of Miss Louisa King (1842-1915), later Mrs Robert Holt.
The Silvy daybooks identify this sitter as 'Miss King (of Beaufoy Terrace).' Identified as ‘Miss King’ on the page of the album in which this carte is found, the adjacent portrait shows ‘Colonel King [of the] 36th Regiment.’
Colonel King of the 36th Regiment is Edward Richard King (1808-1879), who appears on the 1861 census, a widower living with his unmarried daughter, Louisa Mary Henrietta King, and 3 servants, at 17 Beaufoy Terrace in St John’s Wood in London. At the time of the census, Miss King was nineteen years old, so she was born in or about 1842; according to the census, her place of birth was Sandhurst in Berkshire.
On 13 September 1865 she married Lieutenant-Colonel Robert William Francis Holt. She died, aged 73, on 14 April 1915. The death was registered in the district of Portsmouth.
Photographed on 20 April 1861 by Camille Silvy of London.
