‘FOR IMMEDIATE DISPOSAL — The STOCK and FIXTURES of an Old-established CHEMIST’S SHOP. The proprietor is retiring from business in consequence of ill-health. The above may be seen, and particulars obtained, on application to Mr J. Bond, 183, King Street, Great Yarmouth’ (Norfolk Chronicle, 11 February 1871).

‘MR JOHN BOND — In retiring from business begs to return his sincere thanks to his friends for the liberal support accorded to him for the last forty-one years, and has much pleasure in recommending his successor Mr E.J. Pratt to their confidence’ (Yarmouth Independent, 4 March 1871).

EDWARD J. PRATT — Chemist, of 183, King Street, Yarmouth — HAS the pleasure to announce that he has taken the elegant PHARMACY lately occupied by — Mr J. Wright, CHEMIST & DENTIST, 165 KING STREET — to which (after due advertisement) his present business will be REMOVED — EDWARD J. PRATT — Begs to assure his patrons and customers that during his conduct of both Establishments every attention will be paid to their requirements and commands’ (Yarmouth Independent, 2 August 1879).

Edward Jonathan Pratt appears on the 1881 census, a ‘Chemist & Druggist, MPS’ living at 165 King Street in Great Yarmouth. He was born at Harleston, Norfolk in or about 1845. In 1911, aged 66, he was still a ‘Chemist & Druggist,’ now living at Chatteris in Cambridgeshire, with his wife Martha and three adult daughters. He died at Newbury in Berkshire on 6 December 1922, leaving an estate valued at £269.
