A silversmith

A carte-de-visite portrait of a man identified verso as 'J.R. Lindsay' (although the hand-writing isn't great and it's possible that I'm not reading this correctly).

The man has brought an array of silverware to the studio with him. He's either a silversmith or dealer in silver, although it's also been suggested that he's the recipient of all the silver, perhaps as a retirement gift presented at the end of his career.
