A hand-coloured carte-de-visite showing a couple from the Faroe Islands.
Formerly a part of the Kingdom of Norway, the islands were granted to Denmark by the Treaty of Kiel in 1814, along with two other Norwegian island possessions, Greenland and Iceland. Since 1940 the Faroe Islands have been a self-governing country within the Kingdom of Denmark.
