Entrance to the Place Vendôme

Entrance to the Place Vendôme

An unmounted albumen print showing barricades in the streets of Paris. The plinth of the column in the Place Vendôme can be seen in the background at the centre of the square. The column was destroyed on 8 May 1871, so the photograph must date from the last days of the Paris Commune, or from shortly after it reached its bloody conclusion.

Photographer unidentified.
