A carte-de-visite portrait of the Hon Blanche Gough-Calthorpe (1829-1899).
According to Burke’s Peerage and Baronetage (1871), she was born Frances Blanche Anne Gough-Calthorpe. She appears on the 1861 census, living with her parents at 33, Grosvenor Street, London. She gave her name as Blanche, her age as 32 - so she was born in 1828 or 1829 - and her place of birth as Brighton.
On 11 July 1861 she married the Rev John Feilden, rector of Baconsthorpe, Norfolk.
Her death was registered in the June ¼ of 1899 in the registration district of Mitford in Norfolk. She was 70 years old.
Photographed by Disdéri of Paris.
From an album compiled by her brother, Augustus Cholmondeley Gough-Calthorpe (1829-1910), 6th Baron Calthorpe from 1893. This particular portrait was dated 5 November 1860 on the album page below the image; this could either be the date the sitter visited Disdéri’s studio or the date on which she gave the photograph to her brother.
