Hon. M. Moreton

An inked inscription verso in a period hand identifies the sitter. This is probably the Honourable Matthew Henry Reynolds-Moreton (1847-1909), fourteenth child and youngest son of Henry George Francis Reynolds-Moreton, 2nd Earl of Ducie. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 78th Regiment and held the office of Magistrate in New Guinea. In 1901 he married Kathleen Louisa Seale, daughter of John Seale. He died on 17 March 1909 at age 61, without issue.
