Lieutenant Thomas Thompson

Lieutenant Thomas Thompson

A carte-de-visite portrait of Lieutenant Thomas Hinde Thompson of the 78th (Highland) Regiment of Foot (or Ross-shire Buffs).

According to Hart’s Army List (1860), Thompson joined the army as an Ensign on 27 November 1857 and was promoted Lieutenant on 10 September 1858.

If you google him, you’ll find an oil painting of him executed around 1855, showing him as a younger man serving in the 1st Royal Lancashire Militia. The painting is now in the collection of the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum in Lancaster.

Photographer unidentified [reverse is blank].
