Thomas and Mary Lucas appear on the 1861 census living in the village of Simpson in Buckinghamshire. Born at Walton in Buckinghamshire in or about 1803, Thomas was a farmer with 48 acres, employing two men and one boy. Mary was born at Cranfield in Buckinghamshire and was two years older than her husband.
Thomas died at Simpson on 1 May 1870, aged 68. He left an estate valued at under £600. His executors were Thomas Lucas of Horton in Northamptonshire and Isaiah Lucas of Fenny Stratford in Buckinghamshire.
Mary died at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire on 1 March 1873. She left an estate valued at under £200. Her sole executor was her brother, Joel Fisher, a cowkeeper of Shacklewell Green, Hackney.
