A pencilled inscription on the reverse of the mount identifies the sitters as ‘Mr and Mrs Laurie’ [sic]. The photograph was entered at Stationers’ Hall (an essential part of the copyright process) on 18 December 1863 but the production was not identified. The form registering the image merely mentions that the sitters are ‘in ballet costume.'
The National Portrait Gallery has a portrait from the same sitting showing Mrs Lauri on her own. They have identified the sitter as 'Stella Lauri (Mrs Harry Ulph).'
Photographed by the Southwell Brothers of London.
