A cabinet card portrait showing Queen Victoria eating a meal with members of her family under a large canopy.
The man on the left with a moustache is Prince Arthur, the Duke of Connaught. Princesses Alix and Irene of Hesse are on the right in matching jackets and boaters. The other four girls are the daughters of the Duke of Edinburgh: Marie, Bea (just visible below the Duke’s moustache, her face is blurred), Victoria Melita and Alexandra (on the right, next to Alix).
Princess Alix of Hesse was later Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia, wife of Tsar Nicholas II. She was murdered at Ekaterinburg in 1917.
