A carte-de-visite portrait of Robert Henry Hurst (1817-1905), barrister and MP for Horsham. Educated at Westminster and Trinity College, Cambridge, he was called to the bar, Middle Temple, in 1842. From 1862 he was the recorder of Hastings and Rye, and he also served as a Justice of the Peace and a Deputy-Lieutenant. From 1865 to 1874 and again from 1875 to 1876 he was the MP (Liberal) for Horsham. His addresses were Horsham Park, Sussex, and Barrington Grove, Burford. He died on 12 February 1905.
