Unidentified sitters

Photographed by Samuel Oglesby of Llandudno.

Caught housebreaking when he was only ten years old, Samuel Oglesby had served seven years penal servitude in Australia. On release, he had established himself as a daguerreotypist before returning to England in the 1850s. He operated photographic studios successively in Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, Stockton-on-Tees, Preston in Lancashire, and finally, from 1866, at Llandudno in Wales. He died on 1 September 1879, aged 55.
