A carte-de-visite showing several small boys arranged around a horse and trap ladened with hoardings advertising a flower show and cricket match to be held at Staincliffe in West Yorkshire.
According to the Dewsbury Reporter (13 July 1872): 'STAINCLIFFE / THE FLOWER SHOW AND BAND CONTEST - The above annual exhibition promises this year to be a success, a considerable number of entries being already recorded. The musical contest also, which is restricted to amateur bands, is likely to be of interest, and if the weather is fine, well-attended.'
Originally a small hamlet, Staincliffe expanded during the nineteenth century due, in part, to the growth of the heavy woollen industry in the area. Today it is a cross-over district between Batley and Dewsbury in West Yorkshire.
