In 1897 Charles La Prease filed a patent for a new design of child's head support. 'Be it known that I, Charles La Prease of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Photographic Children's Supports, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.'

He died on 18 September 1901. The following obituary appeared in a local newspapers. 'Charles La Prease, the well-known photographer, died last night at midnight, at his home, No. 354 South Salina street, death being due to Bright's disease, from he had suffered for the last two years.

'Mr La Prease was 43 years old, and was born at Northfield, Vt. In early life he was a civil engineer in the employ of W. & L.E. Gurley of Troy, but for the last ten years had conducted a photograph gallery in South Salina street. Besides a widow and daughter, he is survived by his father, William La Prease, of this city. He also leaves three brothers and one sister, Henry La Prease, Peter La Prease, Jeremiah La Prease and Mrs William Clark of this city. He was a communicant of St Mary's church, where the funeral will be held, probably on Saturday morning' (Syracuse Evening Herald, 19 September 1901).
