Mrs Charlotte Elizabeth Bonham and her family

A carte-de-visite portrait of Mrs Charlotte Elizabeth Bonham (1780-1877). Mrs Bonham is the elderly lady seated at the centre of the group.

The woman seated on the left is Mrs Bonham’s daughter Flora Margaret Emma Bonham (1819-1900), who never married. In 1881 she was living in her own household at 50 York Street in Marylebone with three servants. She died, aged 81, on 22 March 1900, at 22, Regency Square Brighton. Her estate was valued at £2601.

The young woman standing on the right is Mrs Bonham’s granddaughter Constance Maria Georgiana Peters (1842-1915). On 14 August 1862 at Cuckfield in Sussex she married Archibald Motteux Calvert. She died on 10 July 1915 at the age of 72.

Just visible in the gloom inside the house is another of Mrs Bonham’s daughter, Marianne Jane, wife of the banker and amateur photographer, William Peters of Ashfold House, Slaugham, Sussex.

Photographer and location unidentified.
