A topographical carte-de-visite showing a view of the town of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire.
The photograph shows a pub with a pub sign of a black horse, under which the name of the licensee, J. Barton, is painted. According to the 1861 census, the publican was Mrs Elizabeth Barton of 37, Market Square, a 59-year-old widow. Another sign on the same building advertises Barton as a 'Plumber, Glazier and Painter'.
