A carte-de-visite portrait of the Countess of Oxford (1807-1877).
Born Eliza Nugent in or about 1807, she was the natural daughter of George Thomas John Nugent, 1st Marquess of Westmeath. On 17 February 1831 she married Arthur Harley, son and heir of the 5th Earl of Oxford. Her husband succeeded his father in 1848, becoming the 6th Earl of Oxford, but he died without heirs on 19 January 1853 and the ancient title became extinct.
The Countess of Oxford died on 14 September 1877.
Photographed by Camille Silvy of London on 17 December 1861.
