Lady Wilde, later Lady Penzance


A carte-de-visite portrait of Lady Mary Wilde, wife of the judge Sir James Wilde.

Born Lady Mary Pleydell-Bouverie on 22 December 1825, she was the daughter of William Pleydell-Bouverie, 3rd Earl of Radnor. In 1860 she married Sir James Plaisted Wilde, who sat on the bench of the relatively new Court of Divorce from 1863 to 1872. In 1869, he was created a peer, taking the title 1st Baron Penzance, and Lady Wilde became Baroness Penzance.

Lady Penzance died on 24 October 1900.
