Lord Galloway and family

Born Randolph Stewart on 16 September 1800, he was the son of Admiral George Stewart, 8th Earl of Galloway and Lady Jane Paget. On 9 August 1833 he married Lady Harriett Blanche Somerset, seventh daughter of the 6th Duke of Beaufort. He succeeded his father as 9th Earl of Galloway on 27 August 1834. His is seen here with four of his ten children.

Lord Galloway died at Galloway House on 2 January 1873.

The portrait appears in the album of Augustus Gough-Calthorpe, Lady Galloway’s nephew. His mother, Lady Charlotte Sophia Somerset, was one of Lady Galloway’s older sisters.
