Mlle Eugénie Fiocre

Mlle Eugénie Fiocre

Mlle. Eugénie Fiocre was the younger sister of fellow dancer Louise Fiocre. Born in Paris on 2 July 1845, she was a principal at the Paris Opéra from the mid-1860s to the mid-1870s. She was renowned for her beauty and for her dancing in travesty roles, the better to show off her shapely figure. In 1870 she created Franz in Coppélia. Degas painted her in Saint-Léon’s ballet La Source [now in the Brooklyn Museum] and her pert, snub-nosed face was sculpted by Carpeaux [now in the Musée d’Orsay.]

She married the Marquis de Crequi de Courtivron-Monfert.
