Mrs Lewis Stafford Northcote

Born in 1842 at Ladbroke in Warwickshire, Isabella Mary Augusta Weguelin was the daughter of Captain John Christopher Rees Weguelin of the 16th Lancers.

On 4 April 1861 at St James’s in Piccadilly she married Lewis Stafford Northcote, son of Reverend Stafford Charles Northcote.

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at Itchen Abbas in Hampshire. The household included their four young children and five servants. Lewis Northcote was a Captain in the 39th (The Dorsetshire) Regiment of Foot.

Lewis Stafford Northcote died on 21 September 1882 at Winchester in Hampshire. He left an estate valued at £7341.

In 1903 Mrs Northcote was in trouble for debt. A short report in the Evening Standard on 12 March 1903 reported that ‘the Debtor’ estimated ‘her total unsecured liabilities at £700.’

In 1911 she was living with her son and his family at Chieveley in Berkshire.

Isabella Mary Augusta Northcote died, aged 79, on 7 January 1917.
