The inscription on the headstone reads: 'Sarah Goringe, wife of Thomas Goringe of Puddlestown [Dorset], who died June 22nd 1869, aged 50 years'.

According to the 1861 census, Thomas Goringe was a draper and grocer employing 3 assistants.
