Sir Thomas Dick-Lauder

A carte-de-visite portrait of Sir Thomas Dick-Lauder (1846-1919) of the Rifle Brigade.

Born at Grange House in Edinburgh on 28 April 1846, Thomas North Dick-Lauder was the eldest son of Sir John Dick-Lauder, 8th Baronet and Lady Anne Dalrymple, the second daughter of the 9th Earl of Stair. He joined the 60th King's Royal Rifle Corps. on the 30 December 1864 as an Ensign (by purchase), later rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He was also a lieutenant in the Edinburgh militia. He succeeded his father in 1867, becoming the 9th Baronet.

His principal residences were Fountainhall at Pencaitland in Haddingtonshire and Grange House, Edinburgh. He died unmarried on 19 June 1919 at the Villa Lauder in Florence. He was succeeded in the baronetcy and family estates by his younger brother, Sir George Dick-Lauder, 10th Baronet.
