A carte-de-visite portrait of the Member of Parliament Thomas Alcock (1801-1866).
On 27 August 1866, the Times announced the death of Mr Thomas Alcock. ‘Mr Alcock, of Roehampton, late member of Parliament for East Surrey, died suddenly at Malvern on Wednesday. The deceased was born in 1801. He sat as a Liberal for Newton, in Lancashire, from 1826 till 1830. In 1837 he unsuccessfully contested Ludlow, and in 1839 he was returned for that borough, but unseated on petition. He contested East Surrey unsuccessfully in February 1841, and was first returned for that constituency in July 1847.’
